How does messaging work in the app?

Direct messages, custom group chats, your yacht group chat, and what you can send in each.

Messaging in the Yacht Week app covers direct messages, group chats you start yourself, and the yacht group chat that opens closer to the event.

Messaging other guests

From your access date, you can message any other guest in your crew list — either one-to-one or in a group chat you create yourself with any selection of guests from the list. From two weeks before your event, your Skipper and Host appear in the crew list and you can message them directly too.

Your yacht group chat

Two weeks before your event, we create a group chat for your specific yacht. It includes your yacht crew, your Skipper, and your Host, and it's the channel for the practical side of the week — arrival times, the first day, anything you want to coordinate before you board. Your Skipper will use it to coordinate boarding on check-in day, so keep notifications on for it.

What you can send

In any chat — direct, group, or the yacht group chat — you can send:

  • Text messages

  • Photos and images

  • Video, either from your library or recorded in the app

  • PDFs

  • Locations, with up to ten pins on a single shared map

  • Your current location

  • Contacts from your phone

Notifications

New messages — direct, in custom group chats, and in the yacht group chat — trigger push notifications. If you'd rather not receive them, you can mute Yacht Week notifications altogether in your phone's settings.

After your event

Past messages stay in the app. The app doesn't expire, so you can carry conversations on with the people you met.
